Frugality
Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Practice
Scripture: There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man spendeth it up. – Proverbs 21:20 (KJV)
Faithful stewardship is the practical outworking of our trust in God. Frugality, in a biblical sense, is not about being stingy; it is about resisting the ‘foolish’ tendency to consume everything we have on our own immediate desires. If we believe that all our resources—time, money, energy, talents—actually belong to God, then how we spend them becomes a matter of spiritual discipline. We are meant to be wise managers who store up ‘treasure’ for Kingdom purposes rather than draining our resources on the things of the world.
Review your life today: where are you leaking resources? Are you spending your money on things that don’t satisfy or your time on things that don’t build? Pray for the wisdom to see your life as a trust from God. By curbing the ‘spend-it-all’ mentality of the culture, you free up the capacity to live more generously and intentionally for Him.
Prompt: In what areas of your life are you consuming resources unwisely instead of managing them faithfully for God’s purposes?
Action Step: Stewardship acknowledges God’s ownership, calling believers to faithfully manage resources for His glory and the benefit of others.
Next Step: Review your recent spending and identify one area where you can cut back to give more.
