Following Christ’s Example

Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Equip

Scripture: For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: – 1 Peter 2:21 (KJV)

Discipleship is fundamentally about imitation. We are called to walk in the ‘steps’ of the One who endured the cross, loved the unlovable, and prioritized the Father’s will above His own comfort. It is easy to admire Jesus from a distance, but the call to follow Him requires that our daily choices—how we speak, how we forgive, how we endure—look increasingly like His. He is the ultimate standard against which we can calibrate our lives.

Look at your life today: is there a situation where your behavior is distinctly ‘not like Jesus’? Maybe it is in how you treat someone who disagrees with you or how you handle a moment of personal suffering. Don’t be discouraged by the gap between where you are and where He is; instead, pray for the grace to take one step in His direction today. He is the path, and He is also the power to walk it.

Prompt: In what specific area of your life do you need to more closely align your actions with the example of Jesus?

Action Step: The Equip module trains us to adopt the mindset and lifestyle of Christ in our daily interactions.

Next Step: Choose one characteristic of Jesus (e.g., patience, humility) to intentionally practice today.
