Fixed Rhythms
Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Practice
Scripture: Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime. – Daniel 6:10
Daniel was a man of immense responsibility in a foreign empire, yet he maintained a non-negotiable rhythm of prayer. His window toward Jerusalem was his ‘fixed point’—a reminder that his allegiance belonged to God above all earthly powers. We often live reactive lives, letting the demands of the day dictate our spiritual life. However, true depth in God is the product of fixed rhythms. Without the anchor of a scheduled time for prayer and gratitude, we are easily swept away by the current of our to-do lists.
What is your ‘Jerusalem window’? If you don’t have a fixed time to pause and pray, start small today. Schedule a time in your calendar that is off-limits to other demands. Whether it is first thing in the morning, during your lunch break, or before bed, establish a rhythm that you can maintain consistently. These intentional windows of time are where your soul finds its orientation. When life gets difficult, these rhythms will be the steady pulse that keeps you connected to the Father.
Prompt: What fixed spiritual rhythms do you have in your daily schedule to ensure you connect with God?
Action Step: Establishing consistent, non-negotiable times for prayer and scripture builds a resilient faith.
Next Step: Set an alarm on your phone for a specific time today to pause and pray.
