Exalting the King

Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Worship God

Scripture: Exalt ye the LORD our God, and worship at his footstool; for he is holy. – Psalm 99:5 (KJV)

Worship is not a performance we attend, but a royal audience we are granted. We are gathering before the King of the universe, the One who holds the stars in place and the history of nations in His hand. Approaching Him with a casual attitude suggests we have forgotten who He is and what it cost for us to draw near. True worship happens when our hearts are humbled by the majesty of God and our spirits are stirred by His holiness.

As you enter the doors of your church, prepare your heart. Leave behind the distractions of the week and put on the mantle of reverence. Remember that you are standing at His ‘footstool.’ Let your songs be songs of exaltation, your prayers be prayers of devotion, and your presence be a declaration that He alone is worthy. When we worship with reverence, we open our hearts to be transformed by the greatness of the God we serve.

Prompt: Are you approaching corporate worship today with a casual attitude, or with the reverence due to the King of the universe?

Action Step: Corporate worship is our opportunity to publicly exalt God, acknowledging His supreme authority and submitting ourselves anew to His lordship.
