Enjoying God’s Peace
Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Rest & Reflect
Scripture: And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:7
The peace of God is described as something that ‘passes all understanding’—it doesn’t make sense in the context of our chaotic lives. It acts as a sentry, guarding our hearts and minds against the invasion of worry, resentment, and fear. However, this peace often eludes us because we refuse to stop long enough to receive it. Setting aside a Sabbath day of rest is our way of saying that we trust God enough to step away from our self-reliance. It is in this cessation of labor that the peace of God finally has the quiet space to settle over us.
Use today to invite that ‘garrison’ of peace into your heart. Step away from your screens your to-do lists and your anxieties. When you rest you are declaring that your value is not in your productivity but in your standing with Christ. If your heart feels unsettled, keep bringing your thoughts to Him until that peace returns. Rest is not just physical; it is a spiritual fortress that guards your life—stay within its walls today.
Prompt: How does setting aside a day of rest allow the profound peace of God to guard your heart and mind?
Action Step: Sabbath rest is an intentional pause that lets God’s supernatural peace replace our worldly anxieties.
