Emotional Health
Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: SHAPE
Scripture: Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. – Proverbs 4:23 (KJV)
Our hearts are the command centers of our lives, influencing our thoughts, our reactions, and our relationship with God. To ‘keep’ the heart with diligence is to be a faithful steward of our emotional well-being, recognizing that suppressed emotions or neglected wounds can hinder our spiritual growth. God desires for us to be whole, and He invites us to bring our true emotional state—whether it be joy, sorrow, anxiety, or peace—before His throne.
Taking time to assess the ‘climate’ of your heart allows you to address unresolved issues before they take root and affect the fruit of your life. By inviting the Holy Spirit to search your heart you gain the clarity needed to process your emotions in light of His grace. Remember that your emotional health is a vital part of your SHAPE and when you guard it carefully you are better equipped to walk in the purpose He has designed for you.
Prompt: What is the current emotional climate of your heart today?
Action Step: SHAPE focuses on personal holiness, which involves bringing our emotional health under the lordship of Christ.
Next Step: Take 5 minutes to prayerfully assess your emotions and surrender them to God.
