Diligence

Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: SHAPE

Scripture: He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich. – Proverbs 10:4

Diligence is the steady, consistent application of effort toward a godly goal. While our culture prizes instant results, the book of Proverbs teaches that poverty of spirit—and often poverty of circumstance—is the natural result of a ‘slack hand.’ Diligence is not about frantic busyness; it is about faithful stewardship of the time, talents, and tasks God has entrusted to us. When we handle our responsibilities with a diligent hand, we are reflecting the character of a God who is purposeful and faithful in all His work.

Take an inventory of your daily life. Is there an area—perhaps in your work, your health, or your spiritual disciplines—where you have been sliding by with a ‘slack hand’? Identify one habit that needs a surge of discipline. By applying yourself with renewed focus, you are not just working for earthly gain; you are building a life of character that honors the Master. Commit your work to Him today and resolve to be faithful in the small details, knowing that the diligent hand eventually reaps a harvest of blessing.

Prompt: In what area of your life is God calling you to apply more diligence and discipline?
