Delighting in the Word

Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Rest & Reflect

Scripture: But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. – Psalm 1:2 (KJV)

The Bible is not a set of rules to be endured, but a revelation to be delighted in. If your time in the Word feels like a chore, it may be because you are viewing it as a checklist instead of a conversation. Meditation is the bridge to delight; it is the process of letting the truth settle in until it becomes the thing you crave. When you see Scripture as the very words of the One who loves you, it changes from an obligation into a feast.

Today, approach your Bible with the intent of finding pleasure in the character of God. Pick a Psalm, a Gospel account, or a passage that highlights His promises and read it slowly, asking Him to stir your affections. Let it be a restorative moment for your soul. If you find yourself dry, be honest with God about it and ask Him to ‘give you a heart for His Word.’ He is more than willing to turn your chore into a delight.

Prompt: As you rest today, does your time in the Bible feel like a chore, or a true delight to your soul?

Action Step: Resting effectively involves turning our minds to Scripture not just for study, but for spiritual nourishment and joy.
