Defending the Faith
Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Rest & Reflect
Scripture: But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: – 1 Peter 3:15 (KJV)
Defending the faith, or apologetics, begins with a heart that has ‘sanctified the Lord God.’ When He occupies the throne of our hearts, our hope becomes an undeniable reality that others will inevitably notice. Being ‘ready always’ doesn’t necessarily mean having a complex theological argument for every question; it means being ready to give a simple, sincere testimony of why you trust in the hope you have in Jesus.
Use your time of rest today to reflect on your own story. Why do you believe in Christ? What is the core of your hope during difficult seasons? If someone were to ask you why you choose to follow Him would you have an answer prepared? Preparing this ‘reason’ is a beautiful way to strengthen your own faith ensuring that you are always ready to share the beauty of the Gospel with those who are searching.
Prompt: As you rest today, consider how prepared you are to explain the reason for your hope in Christ.
Action Step: Sabbath rest gives us time to solidify our faith so we are ready to defend it gently and respectfully.
