Dealing with Anger
Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: SHAPE
Scripture: Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: – Ephesians 4:26 (KJV)
Anger is a powerful emotion that reveals what we value. While not all anger is sinful—after all, God Himself expresses righteous indignation—the danger lies in how we handle it. When we allow anger to linger or fester, it gives the enemy a ‘place’ or a foothold in our lives. The command to ‘not let the sun go down on your wrath’ is a call to immediate reconciliation and the release of bitterness.
Today, check your heart’s temperature. If you are angry, ask yourself: ‘Is this a righteous concern for God’s glory or a defensive reaction to my own pride?’ Don’t suppress your feelings, but bring them to the Lord. Ask Him to help you process that frustration constructively. By dealing with your anger before the day ends, you prevent it from hardening into a wall between you and your brothers or sisters, keeping your heart open to His peace.
Prompt: How do you currently process anger, and does it draw you closer to God or lead you into sin?
Action Step: SHAPE focuses on emotional health and dealing with anger biblically to maintain a pure heart.
Next Step: Identify one unresolved source of anger and surrender it to God in prayer today.
