Creation and Fall

Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Theology

Scripture: Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: – Romans 5:12 (KJV)

The narrative of the Fall is essential to understanding the Gospel, for we cannot grasp the weight of the cure until we fully realize the lethality of the disease. Sin is not just a collection of bad behaviors; it is a fundamental rebellion that severed our connection to the Life-giver, leading to both physical and spiritual death. When we understand that sin is a condition passed down to all, we stop making excuses for our failures and instead recognize our absolute, desperate need for the second Adam, Jesus Christ.

Appreciating the Savior begins with acknowledging our helplessness apart from Him. Today reflect on the gravity of the Fall and how it explains the brokenness we see in our own hearts and the world around us. This reflection should not lead to despair but to a deep overflowing gratitude. Because the consequences of sin were total the salvation provided by Christ is total—His life for our death, His righteousness for our sin.
