Contemplative Prayer
Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Practice
Scripture: Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. – Psalm 46:10 (KJV)
Contemplative prayer is the art of ‘being’ before God, rather than ‘doing’ things for Him. We are often so anxious to speak, to request, or to analyze that we never give God the space to simply be with us. Silence is an uncomfortable vacuum that the world constantly tries to fill with noise, but it is in that silence that we realize we are not the masters of our own lives—He is.
Can you set aside fifteen minutes today where you commit to total silence? No phone, no music, no Bible reading—just a quiet heart before the Creator. If your mind wanders to your tasks, gently bring it back to the awareness of His presence. This isn’t wasted time; it is the most productive thing you can do for your soul, for it is in the stillness that the voice of the Shepherd becomes the most distinct.
Prompt: In our fast-paced world, when was the last time you sat in total silence just to listen to God?
Action Step: Practice involves daily routines like contemplative prayer to foster a deeper, listening relationship with the Lord.
Next Step: Spend five minutes in complete silence today, asking God to speak to your heart.
