Confessing to One Another
Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Practice
Scripture: Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. – James 5:16
We are naturally prone to keeping our secrets tucked away, fearing that exposure will lead to judgment. But the Bible commands us to confess our faults to one another precisely because sin thrives in the darkness but withers in the light. Healing is not just a vertical reality between you and God; it is a horizontal reality mediated through the community of the Church. When we share our burdens and our failures with a trusted brother or sister, we break the power of shame and invite the healing strength of corporate prayer.
Is there a fault or a recurring struggle you have been carrying alone? God has provided your spiritual family as a source of healing. Seek out one person today—someone who is mature in the faith and wise—and share your struggle with them. You will find that vulnerability while challenging is the gateway to the healing you have been seeking.
Prompt: Why is confessing our faults to other believers a necessary practice for spiritual healing?
Action Step: Practicing accountability is vital for a consistent spiritual life.
Next Step: Review the Devotions and Accountability sections in the PRACTICE module.
