Chastity and Purity
Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Practice
Scripture: For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication: That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour; – 1 Thessalonians 4:3-4 (KJV)
To ‘possess your vessel in sanctification and honour’ is to recognize that your body is not a toy for personal gratification, but a temple for the Holy Spirit. In a culture that treats the human body as an object to be used or displayed, this is a radical, counter-cultural act of worship. Purity is not about repressing life; it is about protecting the sanctity of a vessel created by God to house His glory. When we honor our bodies, we are declaring that God’s design is better than the world’s degradation.
Today, affirm your identity in Christ. If you are struggling with impure thoughts or the pressure of cultural expectations, remember that you are bought with a price. Your body has been set apart for His purposes. Guard it with the honor it deserves, knowing that true freedom is found not in indulging every desire, but in walking in the sanctification that God has intended for you.
Prompt: How does viewing your body as a vessel for God’s honor change the way you approach purity in a hyper-sexualized culture?
Action Step: Practice involves maintaining disciplines of purity, honoring God with our bodies and minds as acts of daily worship.
Next Step: Pray for the strength to honor God with your eyes, thoughts, and actions today.
