Ceasing from Work

Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Rest & Reflect

Scripture: And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. – Genesis 2:2 (KJV)

The practice of resting is deeply woven into the very fabric of creation. By resting on the seventh day, God established a sacred rhythm of work and cessation for humanity to follow. Taking time to truly ‘cease’ from our labors allows us to Rest & Reflect on God’s provision and sovereignty, stepping away from the illusion that our constant striving sustains the universe.

As we embrace this time of rest and reflection, we recalibrate our minds and bodies. We prepare ourselves for the week ahead by acknowledging that our ultimate security and worth are found in Him, not in our productivity. This intentional pause is vital for spiritual endurance, allowing us to quiet the noise of the world and tune our hearts to the gentle whispers of the Holy Spirit.

Prompt: How well did you "cease" from your work today?

Action Step: Rest is not just a break; it is an act of trust. By resting, we acknowledge that God is in control of the world. Take time today to enjoy your family and friends, reflecting on the progress you've made this week.
