Almsgiving
Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Practice
Scripture: But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: – Matthew 6:3 (KJV)
Generosity is a core practice of the kingdom, but Jesus warns us about the ‘theatre of charity.’ It is easy to let our giving be driven by a desire for a good reputation or a feeling of moral superiority. True almsgiving, however, is a private transaction between us and God. When we act anonymously, we ensure that our motive is pure and that our reward comes from the Father who sees in secret. This keeps us from the trap of pride and anchors our generosity in genuine compassion.
How can you give today in a way that remains hidden? Maybe it’s supporting someone in need without them knowing the source or volunteering your time where your name won’t be on the sign-up sheet. The goal is to cultivate a heart that is so satisfied in God’s approval that it doesn’t need the validation of people. Let your generosity be a quiet, joyful overflow of the grace you have received.
Prompt: Are your acts of generosity done quietly for God’s glory, or are you seeking the applause of others?
Action Step: The Practice of biblical stewardship calls us to manage our resources faithfully, which includes generous, humble giving.
Next Step: Give anonymously to a need you are aware of today.
