Adaptability

Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: SHAPE

Scripture: I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. – Philippians 4:12

Adaptability in the Christian life is the fruit of contentment. Paul learned that his stability was not found in his circumstances—whether he was in a season of abundance or a season of lack—but in the secret of Christ’s sufficiency. When God changes our plans or disrupts our comfort, we are given a chance to prove that our foundation is in Him rather than in our situation. Resisting change usually stems from a fear that God is not in control of the transition, but adaptability reflects a heart that trusts His sovereignty.

Today reflect on the last disruption you faced. Did you react with frustration or did you lean into the Lord’s instruction? Ask Him to cultivate in you a spirit that remains flexible and focused regardless of the terrain. When you stop fighting for the life you planned and start embracing the life He is leading you into you gain an unshakable peace. Adaptability is simply the courage to follow where He leads, even when the path takes a turn you didn’t anticipate.

Prompt: How well do you adapt when God changes your circumstances or plans?

Action Step: The SHAPE process requires us to be flexible clay in the Potter's hands, adapting to the seasons He places us in.
