Active Service to Others
Discipleship S.T.E.P.S.: Equip
Scripture: For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. – Galatians 5:13 (KJV)
Liberty in Christ is not a license to do whatever we want; it is a freedom from the slavery of our own selfishness so that we are finally free to love. We are called to liberty so that we can serve. If we aren’t using our freedom to bless others, we are essentially squandering the very purpose of our salvation. Service is the practical exercise of the Christian life—it keeps our hearts soft and our eyes focused on the needs of the body rather than the desires of the flesh.
Identify someone in your reach today—a spouse, a roommate, a neighbor, or a coworker. Ask yourself: ‘What is one concrete way I can lighten their load?’ It might be something small like doing a chore they dislike, offering a listening ear, or helping with a task. By choosing to serve, you aren’t just being nice; you are fulfilling your calling and putting the Gospel into action in the most tangible way possible.
Prompt: Who is someone in your immediate sphere of influence that you can actively serve today?
Action Step: The Equip module trains us to use our freedom in Christ as an opportunity to love and serve others.
Next Step: Perform one intentional, anonymous act of service for someone today.
