The Key to Spiritual Understanding

Is there a Key that Opens Spiritual Understanding to Christians?

Yes! Jesus revealed the key to spiritual understanding to his disciples as He taught them the parables. All His disciples should use this key when praying, reading the Bible, and anytime they are seeking spiritual enlightenment.

What is the Key?

The Key is asking and inviting God to:

  1. Open Your Eyes, so You can See.

  2. Open Your Ears, so You can Hear.

  3. Open Your Heart, so You can Feel.

  4. Open Your Mind, so You can Understand and Perceive.

Consider this question.

Who is the best person to ask to interpret and explain a statement, story, or poem?

Answer: The Author!

The Author is the only one that truly knows what they meant and intended to convey in their writing.

So, who is the Author of the Bible?

God, the Holy Spirit!

The Bible says that all scripture was written by God through men as the Holy Spirit inspired them. So, the real author is God.

2 Timothy 3:16-17: All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

2 Peter 1:20-21: Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

Only the Holy Spirit can reveal and teach the true spiritual meanings of the holy scriptures in the Bible.

1 Corinthians 2:10-14: But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Jesus explained this Key to understanding to His disciples. It is for this principle of understanding spiritual things that Jesus taught in parables.

Mat 13:13-16 KJVTherefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive: For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.

Isa 6:9-10 KJV – And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not. Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed.

Jesus revealed that He spoke in parables so the listeners would not spiritually understand His teachings. After teaching the parables, Jesus privately explained and revealed the meaning of the parables to His disciples. Jesus said the Holy Spirit would come after He departed. The Holy Spirit would teach them everything and would guide them in all truth and understanding.

John 14:25-26: These things I have spoken to you while being present with you. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

John 16:12-15: I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

Act 26:17-18 KJVDelivering thee from the people, and from the Gentiles, unto whom now I send thee, To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.
